Safeway-Guy-Style Potatoes; Smoky Wine Pairing

A man in the Safeway saw me standing and looking at some sweet potatoes last week, and so he gave me his recipe for roasting potatoes Greek style, and recommended that I mix the yams with yellow potatoes. (I think/hope he worked there, because he then ripped open a bag of yellow potatoes for me.)

The recipe is: cut the tubers into wedges; place in a lasagne pan and drizzle with olive oil, season with basil, thyme and rosemary, and add 1/3 cup water. Roast in the oven at 350°F for about 30 minutes. Toss once. I also added some lemon juice, as per Jay's suggestion. Some fine potatoes here.

When I bought this mildly smoky Cabernet Franc at Mount Boucherie, I thought it would go really great with some smoked duck. However, how often do I cook duck? And we just got a new practice space conveniently located right behind Les Amis Du Fromage on Hastings!

So in lieu of smoked duck, this wine is being paired with Happy Days Goat Dairy smoked goat gouda! A fine substitution. And no birds died! And because you can never buy just one cheese at a fancy cheese shop, I also ate some Sainte-Maure Cendré.

Ok, I think I'm finally ready to post some updates about my Okanagan wine touring. Stay tuned!
