. . .

Peanut is back home and resting. And missing some pieces of his tuxedo.

Save Peanut

Peanut has been in the hospital all weekend with kidney problems. They haven't figured out the specifics yet, but when he started losing interest in eating food about two weeks ago, we knew something was up. They've got him on an IV and his vital signs are looking good. The bill so far is over $2000, and with his ultrasound scheduled for Monday, it's expected to climb to $3000 this week. Which, when averaged out across his lifetime, is a small price to pay for such an exceptional fur companion.

I've placed a donate button in the top left margin of this page. Please consider leaving a donation of any amount to help with Peanut's hospital bills. Every little bit counts!

In the meantime, check out some of Peanut's adventures here on this blog. A few of my favourites:

Helping me set up for the Master Cleanse.

Taking a swipe at my pizza pop.

Contemplating a beet.

Helping me plant my first window box herb garden.

Hanging out with a can of trout.

Still life with radishes.

Just lounging on a cutting board.

More cutting board lounging.

Being eaten by a cheese Pac Man.

Oh, Peanut. My favourite dinner companion.

Pizza & The Mystery Pizza Buttons

Ok, who got the button maker? And is sticking buttons with pictures of pizza all over my stuff? Hmmm? I was willing to pass it off as a weird random event when I noticed this pizza button on my backpack before leaving on tour.

But then I returned to work to find THIS pizza button on my chair!

Then yesterday in the car I glanced down at my jacket in my bag and noticed this!

And by the way, yesterday I ate pizza.

Thursday night we checked Peanut in at the hospital. :(

And then we ate a whole lot of Thai takeout. It was my first Peanutless night at home in ten years (except for the peanuts that were on top of my Som Tam Thai salad).

Frozen Everything Soup feat. Parmesan

Hello, what's this? Oh, it's the Everything Soup from over a month ago, defrosting on my stove. I wasn't a huge fan of it back then, but last night I discovered that if you sprinkle it liberally with Parmesan cheese, it is delicious! Maybe Parmesan cheese makes every soup delicious.

Soup & Ciabatta

Soup leftovers!

Jay said that he saw this ciabatta bread and thought of me. Romantic!

Then I made him pose with it for a while. Then we ate the whole thing.

So... soup! (also salad.)

Welcome back to vegetable land! Oh vegetables how I missed you.

I came home to a fridge full of frozen broccoli stumps and dangerously ripe red peppers. Having forgotten how to cook anything else, I decided to make myself some soup. Two soups.

The first is Creamy Broccoli Soup with Parmesan, based on For The Love Of Soup's Creamy Broccoli Soup with Cheddar. I didn't want to buy cheese and had a lot of powdered Parmesan so I substituted it. And it was good. This soup is a great way to use up the broccoli that you bought intending to eat as a snack for lunch but kept opting for the chocolate granola bars instead and so chopped it up, blanched and froze it, rather than letting it go bad. It also has onion, garlic, celery, carrot, potato and oregano in it, and is rendered delicious with the addition of milk, Dijon mustard and cheese.

The second soup, not quite as shining a star as the broccoli soup (surprisingly), but nevertheless the best way to resuscitate some near-death red peppers: Roasted Red Pepper Soup. Feat. basil, leeks, tomatoes and balsamic vinegar. So happy to be eating vegetables again. Looking forward to eating them in non-liquid forms as well. One day.
